Six months later....A brand spankin' new chapter!!!! You'll have to forgive me if this chapter is a dud. I haven't written in months, well fanfics anyways. Essays don't count. Anyhoo. This latest chapter is a little boring BUT quite a bit is revealed, vital information which is going to act as the foundation for the plot of this story as well as a potential follow up. So read carefully. Also, I highly recommend skim reading the beginning chapters.
Enjoy, my darlings!
Chapter 5Reese walked into the penthouse, still reeling from the shock of seeing Lorenzo alive. Her body felt numb and her eyes started to brim with tears. She was going through so many emotions all at once to the point where she had no clue as to what she was truly feeling.
For months, Reese forced herself to believe what everyone else thought to be true; that Lorenzo Alcazar was a victim in a mob related bombing. Though, Reese felt in her heart that Lorenzo had in fact survived the bombing somehow and that he was alive. She had tried hard to let Lorenzo go and move on with her life, but she couldn’t.
She took a few steps forward and felt as if her knees were made of jelly. Reese began to feel lightheaded. She nearly fell straight to the ground had it not been for Jason’s quick reflexes.
“Whoa. Reese, are you okay?” He asked helping her stand up straight.
She shook her head. “No.” She tried her best to hold in her tears but could no longer contain her emotions. “It’s...it’s...Lorenzo.” Reese looked at him. “Jason, he’s alive. Lorenzo Alcazar is alive.” Reese said, just before she bursted into tears.
Jason held Reese close. “Reese,” He pulled away slightly, but still maintained a close proximity with her. “Are you sure you saw Alcazar? Maybe you saw someone else, thinking it was Alcazar. It’s not like it hasn’t happened before.”
“No, Jason.” She said, shaking her head. “I know who I saw. Lorenzo is definitely alive. It’s not my imagination this time. Ask Carly if you don’t believe me.”
“Carly saw Alcazar?”
“She called me and asked me to meet her at her house and when I got there, he was there, alive.” Reese sounded as if she couldn’t believe it herself.
“Well, what did he say? Did he explain where he was for the past six months? Or how he survived the bombing, for that matter?” Jason chose his words carefully and made sure to ask the right questions.
“I don’t know. We didn’t exactly talk much about anything except...” She paused for a moment, trying not to break down into tears over recalling the harsh words Lorenzo said to her.
“Except for what?” Jason asked.
“He thinks I gave up on him and that I’ve moved on. He believes what everyone else does; that we’re together.”
“You didn’t tell him the truth, did you?”
She took in a deep breath and waited a minute before answering him. “No. Besides, I don’t think he would have even believed me if I did.”
“Good. The less Alcazar knows, the better.”
“I think he has a right to know what’s going on. After all, it does involve him and his son’s murderer.”
“Yes, but you know what will happen when Alcazar finds out.” Jason said, sternly.
“Lorenzo will go after him.” Reese replied, avoiding eye contact with Jason.
“And he will not only endanger your life but Mia’s life as well. Not to mention Carly and the boys.”
“I know, Jason, but he does have a right to know who is responsible for his sons death. And I just can’t let him continue to think that I gave up on him and that I stopped loving him.”
“If Alcazar truly does believe that, then he is a fool and he doesn’t deserve you.”
Reese wiped away her tears and walked over to the couch. She sat down. “It doesn’t matter anymore. He’s leaving Port Charles.”
Jason walked over and sat down next to her. “I know how hard this must be for you but at least everyone will be a lot safer once he’s gone, especially himself.” He draped one arm over her.
She leaned her head on his shoulder. “Maybe you’re right.” Reese, then, slid her hand into Jason’s. “Thank you for being here for Mia and for me. You’ve been a good friend.”
“Well, I...uh...I care about both of you, very much.” He leaned his head against hers while rubbing her hand gently with his thumb.
Carly paced back and forth early the next morning. Michael sat on the couch yawning constantly. There was a knock that the door. It was Reese.
“Okay. Where is he?” Reese asked.
Carly motioned over to the couch.
Reese walked over to him and sat down. “Hey, Michael. Your mom tells me you had another nightmare.”
Michael immediately lounged over and hugged Reese tightly. “Was it about your dad?” Reese asked.
He nodded his head. “I miss him so much.” Michael said.
“I know you do, sweetheart.” She said, pulling away from his embrace.
“Why did he die?” Michael asked, angrily.
Reese looked over to see Carly observing her interaction with Michael. Reese shot Carly an inculpatory look. She turned her attention back to Michael. “Well, Michael, I am not sure of a lot of things, but I can tell you this. Your Father loved you more than anything and I’m sure he’s watching over you and your brother and your sisters.”
Michael hugged Reese once more. “Thanks, Reese.”
Carly watched Reese and her son from a distance. She wasn’t sure how she should feel about Reese now that she knows the real reason as to what motivated her revenge against her. Carly felt an immense amount of guilt over having caused Reese to miscarry so many years ago due to her juvenile actions as a reckless teenager. More importantly, Carly was suspicious over the fact that Reese never mentioned that little detail when her true identity came to light and her real reasons for being in Port Charles became known. Carly silently thought.
“Michael, honey, why don’t you go upstairs and get ready for school.” Carly said.
“Okay.” With that said, Michael did as he was told, leaving Reese and Carly alone.
They stood in silence for awhile, unsure of what to say to one another.
Being the woman that she is, Carly spoke up and broke the ice between them. “How come you never told me about your miscarriage when you were seventeen and that I’m the one who caused it?”
“Carly, it was a really long time ago.” Reese began as she stood up, now at eye level with Carly. “I don’t blame you for my miscarriage.”
“How can you not blame me? I’m the reason you were driving that night in the first place. It’s all my fault.”
“We all make decisions, Carly, and we all have to learn to live with them.”
Carly eyed her suspiciously. “I don’t understand you, Reese. You’ve blamed me for destroying your family and your life, yet you don’t hold me responsible for your miscarriage caused by a car accident which would have never happened if I hadn’t slept with your father.”
“I never told anyone about my pregnancy or the miscarriage because it was too painful to even talk about.” Reese’s voice was low and full of deep sorrow, which showed greatly in her eyes as she spoke. “I’ve tried so hard to bury that part of my past deep inside and forget that it ever happened. I never wanted to add on to your guilt.”
Carly’s eyes began to water. It was true. She felt guilty for so many things. Losing one child was excruciating, but losing more than one was unbearable.
“Did you...did you and, uh, Lorenzo manage to clear things up after I left last night?” Carly asked.
“No. But I guess it’s for the best.”
“You mean he doesn’t know about...”
“All Lorenzo knows is that I’m
with Jason and that’s all he’ll ever know.”
“But Reese, you have to tell him the truth.”
“If I do, then it might very well put him in danger and I can’t lose him again, Carly. There’s no way I will be able to live through it this time.” Reese moved closer to Carly. “Besides, after everything I’ve been through these past few months, I just wanted to forget about all the horrible things that has happened in my life and focus on the positive. The less Lorenzo knows about Sonny, the better. At least I know Lorenzo will be save and that’s all that matters.”
“I wish I could be like you, but every time I look into my son’s eyes, I can’t help but feel awful for...for what happened to Sonny.”
Not another word was spoken. Both Reese and Carly quietly looked at each other, sharing a similar guilt for an incident that had happened four months earlier.
