Girls Said Yes But He Said No. Now He's Got His Own Game Show. Remote Control !!
And Now It's His Basement, His Rules, His Game Show.
The Quizmaster Of 72 Whooping Cough Lane Ken Ober.
![]() | Remote Control was a staple of the MTV Network from 1987 to 1990 and even spawned a syndicated version, a home board game, a Nintendo game, plus other goodies like T-Shirts.
While this site focuses on the time Kari Wuhrer was a part of the cast (1988-1989), I'll quickly mention that Remote Control had 3 other "hostesses" Marisol Massey (1987-1988), Alicia Coppela (1989-1990) & Susan Ashley (1990) |
| To be a contestant on the show, you needed to be a college student or at least be in that age bracket. Most of the questions were TV, Movie & Music related. The contestant started by choosing from 9 mysterious cable channels on his or her remote control. One didn't know what the channel was until after it was chosen. Ken then announced the channel name and asked the question or introduced the skit. The first one to buzz in with the correct answer got points (from 5 to 30) and maintained control of the TV. | ![]() |

Cable channels were divided into two categories. There were basic question and answer channels such as "Dead Or Canadian", "Leave Out The Beaver", "No Witness News", and "Brady Physics". Then there were channels that involved the cast members doing skits, telling jokes, singing and dancing etc such as "Mr. Baggy Pants", "Beat The Bishop", "Trivia Deliquent", and the ever popular "Sing Along With Colin" and "The Stud Boy". | Answering such challenging questions as "How many females lived in the Brady household?" is tough work. So midway into the Show the contestants participated in Snack Time. This involved holding a bowl over your head and having food dumped down onn you from the ceiling. A pint of milk was lowered down via a cable. Before breaking for commercials, Colin & Kari did the promo spots (okay these were commercials too) for the prizes the losing contestants would receive. | ![]() |
| Okay we're back. Time for Round 2. Same game but the points were doubled. The Game continued until an alarm sounded and the stage lights blinked on and off repeatedly. This signaled the end of Round 2 and "Off The Air"; namely the departure of the lowest scoring contestant. The removal of the "loser" was accomplished by having him or her (still seated) physically removed from the set by being flung backwards thru a brick wall or lifted up and and out of the room. (See Pictures Below) |
![]() | The remaining two contestants battled it out with a 30 second Lightning Round. The Winner went on to the Grand Prize Round, while the "loser" was removed in a similar manner as the previous "loser". The Bonus Round entailed being strapped into the Craft-Matic Adjustable Bed and facing the giant wall of televisions. In order to win, the contestant had to name all nine of the Music Artists whose videos were displayed on the 9 TV Screens within 30 seconds. |
